Venice Architecture Biennale

The 17th International Architecture Exhibition was planned to run 23 May to 29 November 2020 (pre-opening 21 and 22 May), curated by architect and scholar Hashim Sarkis. It is now planned to open 29 August.

“The world is putting new challenges in front of architecture – stated Sarkis. I look forward to working with participating architects from around the world to imagine together how we are going to rise to these challenges.”

Hashim Sarkis has been Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) since 2015. He is the author and editor of several books and articles on modern architecture history and theory.

Australia’s pavilion was to have been assembled by creative directors Tristan Wong and Jefa Greenaway. Their proposal, titled In | Between, to be delivered in collaboration with anthropologist Elizabeth Grant, writer/producer Tim Ross, designer Aaron Puls and architecture graduate Jordyn Milliken. Unfortunately, the Australian Institute of Architects has announced that it will not participate this year due to the difficulties of managing involvement from Australia with coronavirus restrictions. Read more here.

The Biennale has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will now open on from 22 May to 21 November in 2021. For more information, go here.
