Jury citation
In the remote township of Beswick in the Northern Territory, we see an example of humble yet clever architectural moves making a significant contribution to community. Not just with the simple provision of much needed space, but with spaces that are flexible and responsive.
The design and construction strategy is simple in conception and robust in execution, and maximizes potential from the bare minimum. Working within the constraints of a remote location, limited skills and difficult climatic conditions, the devised approach works with the problem of access to affordable skilled labour to create a building that caters for accommodation, exhibition and learning, reinforcing a community focus in the precinct.
