2014 National Landscape Architecture Award: Land Management

2014 National Award for Land Management Wanginu Park GbLA Landscape Architects

Jury comment

Set on the edge of a new residential subdivision at Sunbury in Victoria, Wanginu Park is a sensitive and beautifully executed restoration of a highly degraded landscape. A skilful landscape masterplan developed in collaboration with allied specialists illustrates a deep understanding of constructed ecologies that underpin landscape systems.

Through a series of subtle and sensitive interventions, GbLA has revealed the natural beauty of the site and re-connected the park, which now appears to merge seamlessly with the pre-settlement qualities of the place, with its heritage and cultural context.

The project demonstrates a commitment to the long-term management processes that are required to re-establish a landscape. It provides a new benchmark for the sensitive landscape management of ecological corridors, particularly as a setting for new communities.
