2016 Australian Interior Design Awards: Emerging Interior Design Practice

2016 Australian Interior Design Awards Emerging Interior Design Practice We Are Huntly

Jury comment

With an already large and varied breadth of work, We Are Huntly impressed the judges with its beautifully resolved Richmond Residence. Containing a clear passion, rigour and eye for detail, this interior design practice portrays a maturity and sophistication, while also embracing the functional and fun. With an emphasis on craft and innovative use of natural materials, We Are Huntly’s two directors, Alicia McKimm and Kylie Dorotic, bridge the gap between architecture and visual arts and are far from one-trick ponies. They are not going anywhere, they are here to stay, they are … We Are Huntly.

Design statement

Established in 2013, We Are Huntly is growing day by day. The Melbourne-based practice has designed more than fifty projects to date, including Richmond Residence, Hampton Penthouse and Arbory Afloat (all pictured), just to name a few.

We Are Huntly’s two directors, Alicia McKimm and Kylie Dorotic, may be young by industry standards, but they value what they’ve learnt from the greats they’ve worked with, and have built on it with their own experience and understanding.

Working across retail, hospitality, commercial, residential and multi-residential projects, We Are Huntly displays an emphasis on craftsmanship, meaning they select everything not only on form, but also function. With each project, the team aims to create something unique that is sure to surprise and something that is beautiful.

The Award for Emerging Interior Design Practice is supported by Space Furniture. The Australian Interior Design Awards are presented by the Design Institute of Australia and Artichoke magazine. For more images of this project, see the Australian Interior Design Awards gallery.
