An “accomplished” building that brings together three government agencies was the most awarded project at the Australian Institute of Architects 2022 Darling Downs/West Moreton Regional Architecture Awards.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services South West Regional Headquarters by Sims White Architects received a regional commendation as well as the William Hodgen Award for Building of the Year and Regional Project of the Year. “The successes of this project are significant, memorable and are exemplary of a regional architecture that is rigorous enough to combat client briefs of great complexity within expansive majestic landscape settings,” the jury said in its citation.
Elsewhere in the awards, Nielsen Jenkins received the House of the Year award for Toowoomba House. The jury praised the architects for their “gentle, incremental and curated” approach to the site.
All project receiving regional commendations will progress to the Queensland Architecture Awards, to be announced on 24 June.
