Canberra tower complex designed around central courtyard

A 10-storey residential development accommodating 315 apartments across multiple building forms would be built within the Belconnen Town Centre in Canberra under a development application before the ACT planning department.

Designed by Cox Architecture, the development would occupy Block 20 Section 32 Belconnen, at the intersection of Belconnen Way and Benjamin Way. It would include “three to four” building forms on top of a four-level basement, with five retail units spread across the lower floors.

The development would be built around a central courtyard with deep root planting and a communal open space for the residents and users of the space.

There would also be an “activated” rooftop, with a swimming pool with supporting facilities, private rooftop gardens, lawns, outdoor dining barbeque areas and lawns.

Enviro Links Design is the project’s landscape architect. The proposed landscaping scheme incorporates both soft and hard landscaping elements “so as to provide for a high level of amenity with opportunities for active and passive outdoor recreation and relaxation,” planning documents note.
