The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) has announced Australia’s first ever festival celebrating the contribution of landscape architecture to the natural and built environments of our cities, suburbs and regions.
The festival is scheduled for 16–18 October 2014 in Brisbane, incorporating an education and research summit, along with fringe events and tours and culminating in the 2014 National Landscape Architecture Awards. To help shape the festival, AILA is seeking expressions of interest from individuals, practices, schools of landscape architecture or collaborative teams for the role of creative director. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing the festival theme and content, including speaker selection, fringe events and branding, and will work closely with AILA staff to deliver this inaugural event.
The aim of the festival is to engage the profession, students, universities, government and the public with the practice of landscape architecture and explore the contribution that landscape architects make to communities and cities. “This is an exciting opportunity for AILA and the profession to facilitate valuable exchanges between local and international practitioners, students, the public and government bodies who make policy,” said AILA national president, Mark Frisby.
