This is the latest addition to Taschen’s Basic Architecture Series, which profiles a selection of architectural greats. Richard Meier, born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1934, has imposed a style that is “almost invariably driven by grids and precisely calculated proportions.” Not only is the geometry of his work is highly recognizable, but his consistent choice of colour and materials, including white aluminium panels to nautical railings, is a trademark of his style. Meier works on projects of ranging scales, from small residential projects to large-scale public buildings such as the infamous Jubilee Church, Rome, Italy. The sculptural and painterly qualities of his architecture are enticing, and much can be learnt from his careful compositions of form and execution of detail.
