New chapter presidents appointed in Institute elections

The Australian Institute of Architects has announced the results of a number of elections to both its national and various chapter councils.

This included the election of four chapter presidents – in Victoria, Queensland, the Northern Territory and the ACT.

Amy Muir, of eponymous practice Muir Architecture, will take over as Victorian chapter president. Previously a Victoria chapter councillor, Muir was the recipient of the National Emerging Architect Prize in the 2016 Australian Achievement in Architecture Awards.

Muir received the award in “recognition of her significant contributions to the profession through design excellence, education and industry leadership,” including her work as co-chair of the Victorian Small Practice Forum.

Current Victorian chapter president Vanessa Bird was elected to the Institute’s national council, along with Justin Hill, director of Kerry Hill Architects.

Elsewhere, Paul Trotter, director of Fulton Trotter Architects, was elected Queensland chapter president. Beginning his career with the practice in 1983, Trotter has specialized in health, aged care, education and cultural projects.

Jenny Culgan (director, Mode) was elected NT chapter president and Philip Leeson (director, Philip Leeson Architects) was nominated for the ACT chapter presidency.
