Shortlist revealed: 2022 Eat Drink Design Awards

The shortlist for the 2022 Eat Drink Design Awards has been announced. Across seven primary categories, 112 entries will now progress the next stage of judging.

“The design community seems to be embracing a trend towards nostalgia and familiarity in uncertain, troubling times – ones that are given form, thankfully, in an original and innovative way that avoids simple mimicry,” the jury said.

“In more general aesthetic terms, it seems apparent that the design community has further interpreted the collective mood by moving beyond a technique of layering up complexity in spaces. More singular, strong ideas for each venue and project seem to be a thing this year - given form and materiality in a pared-back way.”

Winners will be announced on Thursday 10 November 2022. Each category winner will receive a cash prize of $1,500. Venues considered for this accolade have achieved a level of cultural significance as well as demonstrating longevity in an industry often categorized as transient.

The 2022 jury comprises Melissa Leong (food writer and Masterchef Australia judge), Shannon Bennett (chef, former restaurateur and TV personality), Fiona Lynch (founder, Fiona Lynch Office), Rodney Eggleston (founding director, March Studio) and Cassie Hansen (editor of Artichoke).
