Sunday’s Garden: Growing Heide by Lesley Harding and Kendrah Morgan

While Heide Museum of Modern Art founders Sunday and John Reed are remembered foremost as art benefactors, they were also devoted gardeners. This follow-up to Sunday’s Kitchen: Food and Living at Heide (Houses 76) takes readers on a journey through the gardens surrounding the museum. Detailed plant lists and current photos are paired with historical images and anecdotes to tell the story of how the gardens were transformed from a neglected dairy farm into part of one of Melbourne’s most loved cultural destinations. The Reeds connected art with nature to create an inspirational environment for the artists they supported, including Mirka Mora, who has written the foreword to this colourful, information-rich book.
