The Houses of William Wurster: Frames for Living by Caitlin Lempres Brostrom and Richard C. Peters.

The life and work of William Wurster (1895–1973) is celebrated in this rich compilation of thirty-three of the American architect’s best-known houses. Readers are given an insight into Wurster’s relationships with his clients and the fine buildings that followed, displayed through a range of photographs, plans and discussions.

Known as a “force to be reckoned with,” Wurster’s forty-five-year career combined Modernism with the vernacular. He described houses as “frames for living,” expressing the idea that the occupant can transform their environment to meet their particular needs. Featured projects include Church House and Kenyon Cottage Apartments in California.
