Commendation for urban design

JURY CITATION

The Webb Bridge is part of the Melbourne Docklands’ public art scheme and is the outcome of a successful collaboration between Denton Corker Marshall and Robert Owen. Looping gracefully across the water, the bridge extends an existing prosaic structure in a poetic and whimsical manner. The integration of architecture and art is seamless, resulting in an invigorating, inhabitable piece of art.

A small jewel-like urban element, the bridge is part of Melbourne’s extensive system of bicycle and pedestrian paths, which extend for many kilometres across the metropolitan area. The Webb Bridge punctuates the journey, providing a lively moment for cyclists and pedestrians on the move as well as a delicate, visually compelling object to be contemplated by those looking on.
