The 2023 Eat Drink Design Awards spanned the breadth of the stylistic spectrum from cafes, bakeries and dessert shops with tight floor plans to transportive restaurant and bar experiences.
“Australians embrace coexisting cultures,” the jury said. “Our appetite for good design is insatiable.”
“The jury noted several maximal spaces layered with sensory materials and bold features that lean confidently into hedonism,” they continued.
“Ambition is also there in many high-concept projects that have been exceptionally crafted.”
Winners and commendations of the 2023 Eat Drink Design Awards are announced along with this year’s inductee into the Hall of Fame, an accolade that acknowledges enduring excellence in the design of a hospitality venue that is of more than ten years standing.
Designed in the early 1990s, Bistro Moncur by Tzannes blends the simplicity of traditional French bistro cuisine with a sophisticated and timeless design that lured diners out of their homes week after week, for generations. Read the jury reflection here.
