The shortlist for the 20th Australian Interior Design Awards (AIDA) has been revealed. The awards program, a partnership event of the Design Institute of Australia and Architecture Media’s Artichoke magazine, recognizes interior design excellence in the categories of Retail Design, Hospitality Design, Workplace Design, Public Design, Installation Design, Residential Design and Residential Decoration.
“It is very exciting to see these unique awards achieve 20 years of celebrating and promoting the excellence of Australian interior design,” said awards jury convenor Geraldine Maher.
“An important part of what make these awards unique is the generous amount of time our juries commit to the judging process. Over the years the juries have comprised the most talented and experienced designers and architects from around Australia.
“AIDA is the only interior design awards program in Australia that has face-to-face judging over a two-day period. This facilitates rigorous debate, discourse and analysis that truly acknowledges the hard work and talent Australian practices invest in their projects to create the accomplished spaces that contribute to many aspects of our society and our design profession.”
The shortlisted projects are in the following categories:
The 2023 jury comprises Melissa Bright (Studio Bright); Jeremy Bull (Alexander and Co); Maria Danos (Maria Danos Architecture); Brian Donovan (BVN); Georgie Shepherd (Georgie Shepherd Interior Design); Aaron Wooster (formerly Smart Design Studio) with Stuart Krelle (Luchetti Krelle) and Rosie Morley (Fender Katsalidis) returning as jury chairs. The sustainability advisor is John Gertsakis (Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence).
Winners will be announced at gala presentation on 2 June at Melbourne’s Plaza Ballroom. Category winners will also be considered for the top prize, the Premier Award for Australian Interior Design.
The shortlist can also be viewed on the Australian Interior Design Awards website.
The Australian Interior Design Awards is co-presented by the Design Institute of Australia and Artichoke magazine and is supported by Dulux, Elton Group, Laminex, LightCo, Space, Sub-zero and Wolf and Roca.
